COVID-19: Staying Positive
Recently I listened to a podcast by one of my favorites, The Skinny Confidential. I’ve mentioned this podcast many, many times because it’s brought such value into my life and it’s one of the reasons why I do what I do. They talk about everything from camel toes, lol, to interviewing brain surgeons. I’m telling you, CHECK it out, like now if you’re into being the best version of yourself.
So, the reason why I wanted to bring that podcast up is because the one I most recently listened to had to do with this COVID-19 situation and about spreading positivity called Misery Loves Company.
This episode in particular really opened my eyes to what’s going on right now. Everyone is in quarantine and feeling some type of way, I get it. This got me thinking about how I am handling everything right now and I really want to put an emphasis on being BETTER once we go back to our new normal.
SO, I have come up with some tips to get you started on a more positive note during this quarantine:
Meditate/ work on breath work- I’ve discussed meditation many, many times, as you know. It’s just a great time to get started with a good meditation practice, or with some sort of breath work. I know many people may say that meditation is hard or it’s not for them, but those type of people are really the ones who need it most, in my opinion. If you don’t like the idea of sitting and closing your eyes, try laying down and just keeping your eyes closed without falling asleep, just focusing on your breath, for even one minute. It doesn’t have to be more than that. Just give it a try, it really gets the mind going. You’ll be surprised what you think of during that quiet time.
Start a morning routine- Starting on a good morning routine is a great thing right now because you can see what sticks. For me, I have been starting my day with making the bed, drinking water, cleaning/ organizing my home, meditating on most days, and working out. This has worked really well for me, and maybe it can work well for you too!
Pick up a book- I don’t mean just any good, pick up books that inspire you. Read about things that will move you farther along in your journey. Read about someone who inspires you or read about a new hobby you’d like to pick up. This is a time to get into it, for real. You have the time, so why not give it a try? You really have nothing to lose.
Reach out to friends/family- We have so many applications on our phones and computers now that it makes it easier than ever to still connect with your loved ones. We are all going through this. We are in this together, and we can still connect even from afar. Take advantage of it. We don’t know how long this will go on, but there is still hope to see people we care about even if we can’t be with them physically.
Consume content that makes you feel good- There is SO much going on with the news that it’s hard to stay positive, but by consuming content that brings us good energy, we are allowing ourselves to evolve instead of stay stuck. Yes we may be at home for a while, and no we don’t know when we can go out without a mask, but we can choose what content we view on a regular basis. Right now, focus on the things that make you happy whether that’s watching a funny movie, watching a comedian perform live, reading an inspiring blog, there are many ways to promote good vibes.
Start an evening routine- Ok, so now is a great time to get your evening routine off to a good start. I’m even working on this one myself because I am guilty of being on my phone before bed way too often. However, some ideas of a great evening routine would be taking a hot shower, having some tea, disconnecting from electronics about an hour before bed, lighting a candle, doing some breath work, doing whatever it is that makes you feel relaxed, do that about an hour before bed. This can be a great way for your mind to unwind and get ready for the next day.
With these tips, there are other ways to bring more good energy into your life.
Just by remaining calm, understanding that things happen for a reason, so take this time to reflect and focus on feeling good regardless of what is going on in the outside world. It’s like a muscle that needs to be worked out everyday and it will get easier, I promise.
We are all going through this and we are not experts in how to handle a pandemic.
My number one tip for everyone reading this is to PLEASE, just stay home and stay quarantined. We need to do whatever we can to prevent any spreading and to get back to our ‘new normal’ as soon as possible. The only way we can do that is if we stop ‘hanging out’ with people that are also ‘quarantined’. Guys. This is serious and this needs to taken seriously. Let’s be honest, we don’t know who has it and we won’t know for sure, but one thing we do know for sure is if we stay quarantined then it can’t spread anymore and we are protecting ourselves.
I love you so much! Please stay home, stay safe, and stay healthy.
We will come out of this stronger and healthier than ever.
Love,
